Plant shelter

11th of May 2023

We have recently started with our garden plan on a small scale: by bringing a great variety of young trees, herbs, several aloë vera types and various seedlings into our home, we have made the first steps towards creating a food forest. In the last couple of months we have been planting various seeds, cactus seedlings, flowers, young fruit trees and aloë vera, and we have seen how fast they grow in this warm climate. But as the sun is very strong and the weather extremely hot during summers, they need to be very well protected. We are currently building a shelter for all the young plants. It is a first step of bringing the plants from the house - where they were growing first, protected by our adobe walls and bamboo roofs - into our gardens. The shelter is built directly next to a group of mature palmtrees. This way, both can serve each other with creating shade for the other, and the young plants will be protected from all sides. The plants still remain in pots until we have prepared the soil and ensured their spot in the ground.

We used dead palm wood and palm branches from dried out palm trees to build the shelter. We have taken palm tree seedlings from the mature palm trees and they will be placed in the shelter so that they can grow into new, healthy palm trees inside this well protected shady space. A circle is created.
